Ban on Hilsa catching starts tomorrow
Staff Correspondent: A 22-day ban on catching, processing and marketing Hilsa fish starts tomorrow and will continue till November 2 to preserve the fish variety during its breeding season.
Fisheries department and district administrations have taken essential preparations for implementing the ban in 90 rivers of southern districts and also upstream up to Rajshahi.
The fisheries ministry took the decision on October 2 marking seven thousand square kilometer area a breeding ground of Hilsa and slapping ban on catching, selling, transporting, stocking of Hilsa for 22 days.
Raids would be carried out all wholesale fish markets, kitchen markets, chain-shops during the ban. The people who will violate the ban would face jail terms, burning of nets, and fine of Tk five thousand to ten thousand.
