5 ‘robbers’ killed in ‘gunfights’ across country
Staff Correspondent: Five suspected robbers were killed in separate incidents of ‘gunfights’ in Pabna and Faridpur districts accordingly on Friday.
Three alleged robbers were killed and four others injured in a reported gunfight between their cohorts and Rab at Joynagar in Ishwardi upazila in the district of Pabna. The identities of the deceased could not be identified yet.
Tipped off that 15-20 robbers were committing robbery at Badshah Rice Mill, a team of Rab-12 conducted a hot drive in the area around 3 am, said Bina Rani Das, company commander of Rab-12.
Sensing presence of the elite force, the robbers opened fire on them, prompting the Rab members to fire back, triggering a gunfight. Two robbers were killed on the spot and five others injured in the gunfight while the others managed to go away.
Later, the elite force rescued the bodies and arrested five inured robbers with the help of local people.
Among the injured robbers one died on way to Pabna General Hospital.
Police recovered one rice-laden truck and three firearms from the spot.
On the other hand, in Faridpur, two suspected robbers were killed in a gunfight between two robber gangs at Sattarkandi village in Madhukhali upazila on Friday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.
Being informed that two robber gangs were exchanging gunfire, a police team went to the spot around 1 am and recovered the bullet-hit bodies of the duo, said officer-in-charge of Madhukhali Police Station Ruhul Amin.
The dead bodies were sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, police arrested six people from the area for their suspicious involvement and recovered two firearms, some bullets and three sharp weapons from the spot.
